Meaning
This pattern describes the movement of things, ownership, or knowledge from a giver to a receiver. The particle に marks the giver (the person you receive from), and を marks the object being received. Beyond もらう (receive), this pattern also works with かりる (borrow) and ならう (learn). The particle に can be replaced with から, especially when the giver is an institution like a bank, school, or company.
