〜始める／動詞（ます形）終わる

Meaning

These two grammar patterns describe the state or phase of an action. '動詞(ます形)始める' means to start or begin doing something, while '動詞(ます形)終わる' means to finish or complete doing something. Both patterns use the polite stem (ます form) of a verb attached to either 始める or 終わる to express when an action begins or ends.
