In the previous article, we learned より (A is more than B) and ほど (A is not as much as B) for stating comparisons. But what if you want to ask — "Which do you prefer?" "Which is the best?" That takes a different set of patterns.
Comparing Two: A と B と どちらが〜
A と B と どちらが 〜ですか。

どちら is the polite form of "which one." In casual speech, you can also use どっち (more informal).
How to Answer
Use 〜のほうが (the ~ side is more):
Q: 日本と韓国とどちらが好きですか。 A: 日本のほうが好きです。 → I prefer Japan.
You can also say "I like both":
A: どちらも好きです。 → I like both.

Three or More: 〜の中で どれが一番〜
For two things, use どちら. For three or more, switch to どれ (which one) + 一番 (most):

一番 (いちばん) = most / number one. Placed before an adjective, it creates the superlative.
How to Answer
Simply state which is the most:
Q: 紅茶と緑茶と抹茶とどれが一番おいしいですか。 A: 抹茶が一番おいしいです。 → Matcha is the most delicious.
For People Use だれ, For Places Use どこ
If you're comparing people or places instead of things, swap どれ for the appropriate question word:
